Program drums on a step sequencer, write basslines and melodies on a piano roll, arrange it all into a song and export it. ## The rack is the window Every channel lives in one rack, and a pattern holds all of them at once. Drums get steps. Anything pitched gets a roll in the same row, so a melody is written next to the drums it has to fit, and the piano roll opens when you want the whole keyboard. Click a step for a hit and again for an accent, right-click for a ghost note or a roll, or drag along a row to paint a hat line in one go. ## 115 drums, 93 instruments The drums cover an 808, a 909, a 606, an acoustic set of struck skins and wood, and modular kicks, snares, hats, percussion and tuned 808 booms. Eight kits load in one click, and loading one re-voices the pattern you already wrote instead of clearing it. The 93 instruments span bass, keys, mallets, plucks, guitars and strings, leads, winds, pads and brass. 83 are synthesized as you play, so a note at the bottom of the keyboard is modeled rather than stretched from a sample. Ten are recordings of real instruments: an upright piano, a harp, a marimba, a vibraphone, a glockenspiel, chimes, a kalimba, an ocarina, a harmonica and a tenor sax. ## Start from a groove Seven starter beats in trap, funk, soul and classical are ordinary beats you can pull apart, and two of them are laid out as whole songs. Or start from an empty rack. ## As long as the idea needs Patterns run from 16 to 128 steps. Swing and five groove feels move the hits off the grid, from straight to laid-back. Song mode places patterns on bars to build an arrangement of up to 256 bars. The piano roll has scale lock and slides, and a MIDI controller can play and record into it. ## Pads on your phone Click the phone button and scan the code with your phone's camera, and your phone shows the pattern and the tempo, with play, stop and back to the start. With Studio Plus, the first 16 sounds in your rack become pads, lit as the beat plays them. Strike the middle of a pad for an accent and the edge for a softer hit, and tap Record to play them into the pattern, snapped to the grid, the way a MIDI pad controller does. There is no app to install, no account and no sign-up. Your phone talks straight to your PC over an encrypted connection. ## Your sounds, your tag Link a folder of your own samples, or drop files on the rack. 135 sound effects are built in, from risers to air horns. Record your producer tag once and drop it into any beat. ## The mix Every channel has a fader, pan, mute, solo and a meter. The master bus adds glue and a limiter. Mixer and Space come installed, Drum Bus is a free add from the plugin store, and every plugin says what it can reach before you install it. ## When it is done Export the whole song, or 2, 4, 8 or 16 bars of a pattern, as an MP3. Studio Plus adds WAV, FLAC, stems and MIDI export. A project saves as one .beatstudio file. ## Part of the Evlar studios Evlar Beat Maker Studio is one of three Evlar studios, each a separate app in the Microsoft Store. Beat Maker Studio makes the beat, Evlar Rap Studio records the verse over it, and Evlar Mastering Studio makes the song ready to release. The arrow beside Export sends a saved beat to Rap Studio or Mastering Studio, and the link holds: every time you save the beat again, they get the new version. Vocals sent back from Rap Studio or Mastering Studio arrive in My sounds, ready to build a beat under. If a studio isn't installed yet, what you sent waits for it. ## Studio plus The app is free for personal use, with the 808 and Acoustic kits, 39 drum sounds, 18 instruments including the recorded upright piano, 28 sound effects, and up to 12 channels and 12 patterns in a beat. Evlar Studio Plus opens every kit, drum and instrument, unlimited channels and patterns, WAV, FLAC, stem and MIDI export, Beatbox a beat, the pads on your phone and every plugin, and it licenses your beats for commercial release. It comes monthly, yearly or as a one-time lifetime purchase, and one plan unlocks Beat Maker Studio, Rap Studio and Mastering Studio together for the same Microsoft account.
