# Display Calibration Helper

Test patterns that tell you what to look for and which monitor setting to change. Set brightness with a black level pattern, contrast with a white level one, and check gamma, color, sharpness, uniformity and geometry, or follow a six-step guided calibration. Show any pattern full screen on the monitor you choose, or on all of them at once, and hunt down dead and stuck pixels.

## About Display Calibration Helper

A test pattern on its own tells you nothing. Display Calibration Helper puts a plain explanation under every one: what a well set monitor shows, what a badly set one shows instead, and the name of the button on your monitor's menu that fixes it.

## Follow the guide

Six steps, one monitor setting at a time: Brightness, Contrast, Gamma, Color, Sharpness and Uniformity. Each step shows the pattern that setting is judged by and tells you which way to turn it. Back and Next work in the window and in full screen, so you can walk the whole calibration without leaving the pattern.

## Fourteen patterns

Brightness: black level, twenty shades just above black. Contrast: white level, twenty shades just below white, plus contrast bars and a checkerboard. Gamma: striped and solid patches for 1.8, 2.2 and 2.4, and a grayscale ramp with eleven steps. Color: color bars, red, green and blue ramps, saturation steps, and linear and circular gradients for spotting banding. Sharpness: one-pixel lines and small text on white and on black. Uniformity: solid white, gray, black, red, green and blue. Geometry: an alignment grid with a circle, for overscan and aspect ratio.

## Fine lines stay fine

Patterns are drawn at your display's own pixels, so a one-pixel line is one pixel even when Windows is scaled to 125% or 150%. That is what makes the sharpness and gamma patterns trustworthy.

## Full screen, nothing in the way

Click the monitor to fill the screen with the pattern, edge to edge. A caption explains it and then fades; press H to bring it back. Arrow keys or the mouse wheel move between patterns, and Esc returns to the window.

Choose which monitor to use, or show the same pattern on every monitor at once to compare them side by side. The window shows the monitor's name, resolution, refresh rate and scale.

## Dead and stuck pixels

The dead pixel check fills the screen with black, white, red, green and blue in turn, on a timer you set. A dot that stays dark is a dead pixel; a dot that stays one color is a stuck one. For a stuck pixel, drag the flashing fixer square over it and leave it running. That sometimes frees a stuck pixel. Nothing can revive a dead one. The fixer flashes rapidly, so don't use it if flashing light affects you.

Your last pattern and monitor are remembered. Everything happens on this PC: there is no account, nothing is uploaded, and it works with no connection at all.
