# PDF Password Locker

One password, many documents. PDF Password Locker is built around the set rather than the file: drop in a folder, type the password once, and it goes onto all of them. Before it does, the app rates it and names the single thing that would make it stronger — because a weak password on sixty documents is sixty weak documents. Owner and user passwords are separate. AES-256 throughout, and nothing is uploaded.

## About PDF Password Locker

One password. Sixty documents. That is the shape of this app.

PDF Password Locker is built around the set rather than around one file. Drop a folder in, type a password once, and it goes onto everything in the queue. The thing it tells you before that happens is how good the password actually is — because a weak one applied to sixty documents is sixty weak documents, and you only get told once.

## A rating you can act on

Not an entropy figure. "62 bits" tells you nothing about what to change. This counts the four things you can actually add — length, mixed case, digits, symbols — and names the one that is missing, so the advice is "add a symbol" rather than a number to interpret.

## Owner and user passwords, separately

A PDF has two. The user password is what a reader types to open the document. The owner password is what permissions are enforced against. Set them to the same value and the permission model does nothing at all — which is what happens in most tools that show two boxes and quietly write one value into both. Here they are genuinely separate, and you can set an owner password without setting a user one.

## It reads the pile first

Every document is checked as it joins the queue. Ones that already carry protection are marked before you press anything, rather than failing at the end of a long run.

## AES-256

Documents are locked with AES-256 at encryption revision 6, the scheme PDF 2.0 specifies. Every reader shipped in the last decade opens it. The older AES-128 that most tools in this category still write is not offered.

## The queue

Drag a folder in, or select documents in File Explorer and send them across with Open with. Each row carries its page count, its size and a preview of the first page, so you can see what is in the set before you lock it.

## Where the results go

Write protected copies beside the originals, send them into a folder of their own, or replace the originals in place. Anything that could not be processed is named individually with the reason.

## On your PC, only

No account, no sign-in, no upload, no telemetry. It works with the network off.

## Features

- One password onto a whole set of documents, however many are in it
- Rates the password before it goes on all of them, and names the one thing missing
- Separate owner and user passwords, so permissions mean something
- Locks with AES-256, the encryption every reader made in the last decade opens
- Reads the queue first: says which documents are already protected before you run
- Takes a whole folder at once — drag them in, or right-click a selection in File Explorer
- Write the results beside the originals, into a folder you choose, or over the files themselves
- Names every document it could not process, and why, instead of quietly skipping it
- Cancel mid-run; everything already finished stays finished
- Runs entirely on your PC — no account, no upload, no server processing

## What's new in 3.0.5

- The whole app is now built around the batch: one password onto a folder of documents in a single pass
- Added a password rating that names the single thing missing, rather than showing a score
- Owner and user passwords are now genuinely separate. Earlier versions showed two boxes and wrote the same value into both, which is a permission model that does nothing
- Locking moved from AES-128 to AES-256
- The queue now says which documents are already protected before you run
- A redesigned interface that follows your Windows light or dark theme
