About Minesweeper: Deep Water

Minesweeper you can finish by thinking.

Every board in this game is played to the end by a solver that is never allowed to guess. One it cannot finish by reasoning alone is thrown out and re-rolled before it reaches you. If you strike a mine here, it was yours to strike — the twenty missions, the daily field and the open areas all carry that same guarantee.

Operation deep water

Twenty missions in four acts, from the slipway out to open water. The Bar, Kelp Run, Wreck of the Alder, Blackwater Sound, The Teeth, Storm Anchorage, Abyssal Gate. Fields start at 8x8 with six contacts and end at 30x16 with ninety-nine, and Cdr. Halloran briefs you whenever the water changes.

The water does not stay the same

The back half of the campaign changes what a sweep is rather than only how big it is. The Narrows refuses you buoys — hold the field in your head. Fog Bank keeps numbers legible only near the cursor. Rock spurs give a square fewer neighbours, so its number covers less ground. Storm Anchorage lifts the array in four minutes, cleared or not. Deadman's Shoal hands you a safe sounding to spend when you are stuck.

One field a day

The date lays the board, so the field you get is the field everyone else gets. Nine squares across on a Monday, the full thirty by sixteen on a Sunday, on a different seabed each day. There is no server, no sign-in and no leaderboard to farm — just today's sheet, your time, and a streak the game keeps for you.

Or just sweep

Three open areas — Shoal at 9x9, Channel at 16x16, Open Sea at 30x16 with ninety-nine contacts. Best time and best 3BV/s are kept for each, so a field you have already cleared is still worth clearing faster.

How it sounds

Ambience, sonar and hull noise are synthesised as the game runs rather than streamed from a file, and they respond to how tight the field has become. Sound and ambience each have their own switch, and the game is perfectly playable with both off.

It keeps your progress on your own machine, plays entirely offline, and has no ads, no account and nothing to buy.

Built for Windows 11, and at home on Windows 10.
