About Key Press Counter

A number on its own is not very interesting. Key Press Counter gives you the number and then tells you what it is made of.

What you actually type

It ranks the keys you press most and names them, so you can see whether it is Space, E, Backspace or Ctrl that is doing the work. It groups the whole total by letters, numbers, punctuation, function keys, editing and navigation, modifiers, numpad and media. And it counts how many different keys you have ever touched, which on most keyboards is fewer than people expect.

The previous version offered three numbers: a total, Return and Spacebar. A review asked for more complex numbers than that. This is that.

A panel, not a mystery

Click the tray icon and a panel opens with everything in it. The old version had no window at all — you bought it, ran it, and nothing appeared, which is exactly what more than one review said about it.

It counts everywhere

Every keystroke, in every application and every game, whether the window is focused or not.

It does not slow your typing

Counting happens in memory. The count reaches the disk every few seconds and when you close the app, not on every keystroke. The old version saved a settings file on every single key, and its reviews say what that felt like.

It starts with Windows

One switch in the menu, and it is counting from the moment you log in. You do not have to remember to launch it.

Where it lives

In the notification area, with no taskbar button. Left-click for the panel, right-click for the menu. Both are drawn to match Windows 11 and follow your light or dark theme.

If you are upgrading, your existing count comes with you.

Everything happens on this PC. No account is needed, nothing is uploaded unless you turn on backup, and it works with no connection at all. It counts that a key was pressed and which key it was — it does not record what you write, and it keeps no record of the order you pressed them in.
